Mitosis Video

Mitosis is when one cell becomes two daughter cell.

  • Interphase- When the cell copies it’s DNA and gets ready for Mitosis

  • Prophase- When the chromatin conduces

  • Metaphase- When the cell separates its genetic material and the chromosomes align themselves

  • Anaphase- When the two chromosomes go to separate sides of the cell

  • Telophase- When the cell splits into two

It will help us further our medical understanding and work towards medical structures that are almost science fiction.

End of the world food supply

unnamed.jpg

Our project is going to investigate whether or not plants can grow and sustain life in a nuclear apocalyptic situation. Although people would be a factor in an apocalyptic situation, we are going to focus on limiting water and sunlight.

This project is going to impact society because it is resembling a very real situation that could happen in the future where we have limited resources. In any situation where countries have access to nuclear warheads, we need to prepare for what happens if they use them. Our world is also getting hotter and that means that water will become more limited. Our project will also touch on how much water you actually need to grow food and survive.

I would have put more time and energy into the plants, and not have watered them as much. The concept of the project is amazing to me but we did fall behind on the growth of the carrots. I think we focused too much on the development and not enough on the actual plant. It probably wouldn't have been such a bad idea to work on the prototype more then we did either.

Photosynthesis Interactive Lab

Purpose of Experiment:

To learn about photosynthesis. I learned the effects carbon has on the photosynthesis processes. We learned how carbon goes in and puts out sugar well the plant put out oxygen. The photo below shows the whole process of photosynthesis.

None of our leaves rose after 23 minutes of swirling every minute.

Mung Bean and Corn: Development over 8 days

The Experiment

Purpose of the experiment: To learn about the differences in Monocots and Dicots.

Predictions:
I predicted that corn was a Monocot and mung bean was a Dicot. I based this on our first day of observations. When I observed the mung bean had a line going down the middle without skin on certain parts. I noticed that the corn world was solid and easier to break.

Monocots

- Single Cotyledon

- Long narrow leaves

- Flowering patterns of three

- Parallel veins

Dicots

- Two Cotyledon

- Broad leaves

- Flowering patterns of four or five

-Network of veins

Observations: My Mungbean sprouted a little bit sooner than the Corn. The Corn grew taller and was like a piece of strong grass, well my Mugbean was short week with two leaves.

Findings: The Mungbean was a Dicot and the Corn was a Monocot. The Mungbean split in two and had two leaves. The Corn stayed pretty solid and grew on tall sprout with no leaves.

Conundrums, limitations, or changes to your experiment: I put it a little further away from sunlight and limited water. It also grew a fungus.

  • Did your plants drown or thrive against all expectations?: I thought I was under watering it, but it seemed to not as much water as I thought it would.

  • Did you miss watering your plant over the weekend?: I only watered before weekends.

  • Did you constantly change your experimental conditions? Light/ no light/flooding/ drought?: Nope, I am proud to say I kept it pretty constant.
